Is the collective term for companies who have anodising plants?

Although a search on Google, Applegate, Yell, Kelly’s etc. may return 50 plus names. Not all are as advertised , a number use their anodising plant strictly for their own products and will not undertake outside work . A larger majority offer Anodising, but are only ‘middlemen’ who use the cheapest Anodising company they can find without considering the final product or the capabilities of particular Anodisers. A number of the smaller Anodising companies operate just outside the relevant legislation while others actively contravene all legislation.

Therefore the actual numbers of Anodisers operating within the legislation, willing to offer their facilities without middlemen, who can offer a first class service, is a small percentage of the total Anodisers advertised. Obviously Anodisers that fall into this category are much sought after which sometimes results in longer lead-times, and because of legislation are initially more expensive, which of course drives customers into the arms of the other types.

This has resulted in a catalogue of horror stories, and extra cost that far outweigh any initial savings.

When searching for an Anodiser care should always be taken to ensure they have the technical ability, as well as the necessary equipment to Anodise within the legislation.

Finally when dealing with the ‘Good ‘Anodisers, it is important to involve them at an early stage especially if you are providing your own extrusion. Poor extrusions will generate poor Anodised results. The ‘Good’ Anodisers will advise, dependant on the finish and product which extruders you should use and which you shouldn’t.

Please listen to their advice, failure to do so will cost more in the long run. Do not be seduced by cheap extrusions from some of the new sources.
